My OS is XP Pro SP3 and I use Word XP. When I select a line in a document to use bold/italic/underline or to justify the margin the whole document changes. This is a new phenomenon which I have been unable to remedy. I have uninstalled Word 2007, in case it was the cause of the problem, and uninstalled and reinstalled Word but to no avail.



I'm tearing my hair out. Help please!

Hi, RogerM. I can;t remember how it works in XP, but I remember having the problem. Check in the Tools/Templates and Add-ins to see if the template has Automatically update styles checked. Also, check Tols/Options for Keep track of Formatting, and the Autoformat and "Autoformat as you type" for any check boxes having to do with formatting or styles. Uncheck one at a time and see if that solves the problem. And, let me know if something works!

You star, thank you. I eventully got to checking the 'Normal' format for my documents and found that 'automatically update' had been checked. How that happened I have no idea but when I unchecked it everything was back to normal.

I am now a very happy bunny. Thank you again.
