If there is no 'Normal' file (with an extension of dot, dotx or dotm) in the location suggested by Word Options > Advanced > File Locations > User Templates, that suggests you're running with the default setup and there is no 'previous setup' to get back to.
Note: If there was nothing in the entry for Word Options > Advanced > File Locations > User Templates, the templates will be in Word's default template location, which you can navigate to by inputting: %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates into Windows Explorer's address bar.
