First a big hi to everyone, I'm new here.
My question concerns the following: I was working on a text this afternoon, when suddenly word crashed, I got a message that I had to restart it. When I did, all my work of today was gone, luckily I had multiple copies of yesterdays save. But I thought office was supposed to automatically save every 5 minutes or so, is it possible that there's somewhere a copy floating around in my netbook that I could still salvage with at least some of my work of today still there? Generally I save myself every few minutes, but today for some reason I was so concentrated on my writing that I forgot... ![]() More details: I tried to move a piece of text a few lines lower, when I dropped it where I wanted it was the moment office crashed. The file is on my desktop. I am using a legit copy of office 2007 and working on an Asus netbook, it is a new model with n550, dual core 1.5ghz, 2gb memory, win7 starter. Since the crash I have put off the netbook and not put it on anymore to make sure I don't overwrite anything, if there is any danger to do so. Anyone any help or should I just start over? |

Hi S3ZAi
See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827099 IIRC, Word 2007's Autorecover frequency is set to 10 minutes. You can change the interval.

Hi Paul, thanks for the info.
Good news: I have found an .asd file, it was created just 10 mins before word crashed! ![]() Bad news: I don't have a clue what I'm supposed to do with this asd file. Word doesn't repair my original file automatically and when I try to open the asd file within word, I get the message that this type of file isn't supported. ![]() Isn't it a file that is created by word, how come it's unsupported. On the site you linked me to there is a way to force office to recover the file by opening it, closing office, restarting my pc and then open word again, but that gave me a file from three days ago. Why oh why does microsoft always have a trick up their sleeve that average people like me can't have any clue about... ![]() EDIT: I GOOGLED AND FOUND OUT ALREADY!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH PAUL, YOU SAVED MY DAY AND PERHAPS EVEN MY WEEK OR MONTH! For anyone else interested in the .asd mystery, it's possible to open that file type with the textediting program part of open office! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi S3ZAi
Try changing the .asd extension to .doc or .docx, as appropriate.
