Hi Lee,
You might not be seeing the TOC dialogue box because Word recognises that it needs serious updating (ie to incorporate the List of Tables and List of Figures). This is normal. If you don't want the List of Tables and List of Figures included in the TOC, you'll need to add switches to the TOC field to tell it which particular Heading levels to include. For example, to limit the TOC to Heading Levels 1-3, you'd code the TOC field as {TOC \l 1-3}. You can toggle Word's field code display on/off for editing via Alt-F9.
