ASK fields are ordinarily invisible, unless you toggle the field code display 'on' (eg by pressing Alt-F9). You can't really prevent users doing this. If you've got Word configured to display bookmarks, that too will show where the ASK fields are located). You can't really prevent users doing this either. As a rule, the safest place to put ASK fields is in the page header or footer, where they'll be less likely to be clobbered by clumsy editing.
