Yes embedded worksheets do have the same functionality as stand-alone worksheets.

If you modify an embedded worksheet, the changes 'stick' immediately to exit the embedded object. If you don't want to save the changes, you can either re-active the worksheet and undo them, or close the document without saving.

You also have the option of linking to an external workbook, in which case you make any changes there and they'll be reflected in the Word document.
