Default Save Command Changed from Alt+F+S to Ctrl+P

(The topic should say "Ctrl+P" but I can't figure out how to edit it)

I'm running an older version of MS Word (I think it's version 2010)

Ever since I can remember, the keyboard command to save a file has been Alt+F+S. But today when I tried to use that command to save a file, nothing happened.

I looked at the "File" menu and it now shows Ctrl+S as the command to save a file.

Any ideas on how to get my old Alt+F+S command working again?

Ctrl+S has always been the standard shortcut for File Save. File SaveAs is F12

Italophile is correct. Ctrl+S has always been a shortcut to Save. Still is.

If your display language setting is English, when you tap Alt you will see ribbon accelerator keys appear. "F" is the File tab (backstage). Pressing F takes you to that.
Then new accelerator keys appear and "S" is save.

So, try pressing the following sequentially, not all together.
Alt, F, S

These are not traditional keyboard shortcuts. They came into Word when the Ribbon was introduced.
  • They cannot be customized.
  • They change to accelerate commands already on the screen.
  • They do not show up in any list of keyboard shortcuts.

To add to what Charles has said, Alt, F, S is called access keys or sometimes accelerator keys. In the days when Word for Win had a classic menu system, these keys were indicated with an underline in the menus (unless you turned that off in the operating system accessibility settings).

To see all shortcuts for the FileSave command, use the Customize Keyboard dialog box (File > Options > Customize Ribbon > Customize). Locate FileSave in the list of All Commands.
