![]() I just bought a new laptop for my 91 year old mom. She will only use it to write and print letters using Microsoft Word. Just to keep things simple, once it's set up, I'm going to keep the computer completely offline forever. How does a guy buy Microsoft Word these days? Is it a code they email you? Do I just go to the Microsoft website and get the one time purchase Office Home 2024 for $140? Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks |

You can get Office Home and it will have Word.
You can also purchase Word alone. As you may notice, Word alone is more expensive! $179 vs $149 Be sure to first uninstall Microsoft 365 if it is there. Uninstall Office from a PC - Office Support Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 12-30-2024 at 10:33 AM. |

Thanks Charles, especially the tip on uninstalling Microsoft 365 first. New computers must come with a free trial of Microsoft 365, and that's what you are saying I should uninstall? |

Yes. Some may come with Office 2024 but you would be paying extra for that.

OK, I created a local account on the new laptop, and uninstalled the trial version of Microsoft 365 on the new laptop. But now I have to sign into a microsoft account to download OFFICE HOME AND BUSINESS 2019 that I have, right? But I created a local account because I didn't want to sign in to a microsoft account. So what should I do now? Thanks

Sign into your Microsoft account for your Office. The local account should not matter.
