Default Issue with 'Insert Text from File' in Word: Losing Original Font Formatting - IncludeText Field

Hello,

Recently, I encountered an issue in Microsoft Word. For some reason, the "Insert Text from File" feature has started importing text without keeping the font from the original document. Until about two weeks ago, it would import the text with the original formatting intact.

I haven’t made any changes to my settings that I’m aware of. This is crucial for my work in typesetting, as I need to see what the author has defined in terms of fonts before I adjust the design later.

(I have already set the preferences to "Keep source formatting" for all copying and pasting actions.)

Does anyone know what might be causing this issue or how to fix it?

Thank you!

The inserted document uses the style definitions of the target document, which may result in some formatting changes.

Are you saying that you lose direct formatting as well from the inserted document?

In the original document, all text is under the "Normal" style. However, the "Normal" style in the original document is different from the "Normal" style defined in the new document (which, by the way, is an empty document).

In addition, the original document includes character-level formatting that is not defined within the style itself. These individual formatting changes are also being lost during the import.

Another interesting detail is that footnotes do retain their original font from the source document. However, if I copy and paste the text using "Keep Source Formatting," the text is imported correctly, except for the footnotes, which get their font changed.

Which paste options have you selected at File > Options > Advanced? Here, I am using the defaults and I get the expected end result, both with pasting and with the Insert File dialog box.

You may want to look at my IncludeText Field Tutorial which demonstrates how this works.

Thanks, but that doesn't help me. What I have to do is merge 100 documents into one because I have clients who, instead of writing all the chapters of their books in one document, wrote each chapter in a new document. besides that, in that way I also have the same problem.

In which case, see the Combine Multiple Word Documents 'Sticky' thread at the top of the VBA forum: https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...documents.html
