new multi level list not working

sorry if it has been asked but please how do i create a multi level list, i follow tutorials



but i just dont understand it....

i have auto number on and am at paragraph no 19.

i type in 19.1 then tab, type my paragraph and when i enter it does not go to 19.2

i have never understood this, please help.

sorry windows 10 home and MS 365....

if i go to "define new multilevel list"...where do i go from there?
