![]() Office 2021: How to keep the inserted cross-reference (text + number) on the same line? For example, in the screenshot below, the inserted cross-reference (Table 1) becomes fragmented when placed at the end of a line. How can I ensure they stay together as a single unit? I’m aware of the “Ctrl + Shift + Space” shortcut that keeps specific entries together, but I’m looking for a more general solution that ensures all inserted cross-references remain as a single unit throughout the entire document. Could this be done using a find/replace workaround? There should be a smarter solution. |

I am not aware of a general fix or workaround for this.
Manually adding a nonbreaking space between the caption and the number in the cross-referenced item does work, as you already noted.

I use a non-breaking space in all captions so any cross references also have that non-breaking space.
You can do this one at a time as table and figure captions are added or you can also do a find/replace to do them all afterwards.
