Office 2021: How to force the table selection sign to appear?




In the screenshots below, I couldn't figure out how to make the table selection sign visible when it fails to appear.

It happens frequently that when hovering over the corner of the table, the selection table sign doesn’t appear. Have you observed this issue while working with tables?

It helps to have the insertion point or selection inside the table.

I have run into the issue a few times over the years; most of the time the table selector displays, but occasionally it doesn't. No idea what causes it. When it happens, if I need to select the entire table, I just select all the columns.

For example, I am hovering over the corner of the table, but the table selection icon does not appear.

Is your insertion point inside the table? Did you click in it first? Are your Table tabs showing in the Ribbon? (That is three ways of asking the same question.)

Right, the cursor is inside the table; however, hovering over the corner does not bring up the selection icon.

Your orange circle is not at the corner.
Your mouse pointer needs to be the top left corner of the table.
