Question Office 2021: The "Center" alignment option in the "Cell" alignment fails in the first and second col

Office 2021: The "Center" alignment option in the "Cell" alignment fails in the first and second columns of a table,

In the screenshot below, I couldn't figure out why the "Center" alignment option in the "Cell" alignment fails in the first and second columns of the table.

What could be the issue here?

Both are set for centered vertical alignment.

Both appear to be centered vertically.

Exactly what is the problem? Are you wanting horizontal alignment?

If you are trying to center the text paragraphs within the selected cells, you have to make use of the Paragraph dialog box or the Ctrl+E shortcut for selected text.

I identified the issue beyond this. It was the "double" line spacing. Changing it to "single" resolved the problem, as shown in the screenshots below.

Note the tab character. That bumps the centering. The space for the tab is included in the centered text.

To add to what Charles has said, you would want to set a paragraph number to be followed by "Nothing" if the text paragraph is blank (no text) and you want the para number to be centered.
