First, not worksheets, but documents.
Keep backups of your Normal.dotm file. That way, if something goes wrong, you can backup to where it was working.

My Addins Download has a number of files that you can download and look at.
  • Add-Ins (many, but not all, have macros)
Eventually, you will want to store your macros in one or more different .dotm templates to use as one or more Add-Ins rather than keep them in your Normal.dotm template.
