Refresh hyphenation/pagination in Word 2013
Dear friends, sometimes I see quite strange behavior in Word 2013. Lines may have wrong hyphenation (or even pagination) - it is obvious that a line should be hyphenated another way. It looks weird and it is enough for me to print a space and delete it (just push two buttons) for Word to refresh hyphenation/pagination and make it good on single line. Is there a possibility (may be - a hot key) to refresh hyphenation/pagination in whole document at once?
Is this a kind of Word 2013 feature, because Word 2003 is refreshing and keeping hyphenation/pagination all the time? Thank you. |

Could you give us a specific example of what you see?

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?" The controls for Hyphenation are on the Layout tab of your ribbon, in the Page Setup block to the right. You could turn it completely off and then reapply, but also have a look at the Hyphenation Options in that dropdown. Maybe you just need to narrow the zone.

Here is it. On pic 1 - there is a paragraph with obviously wrong hyphenation. On pic 2 I'm just adding the space. On pic 3 I'm deleting the space and get pretty fine hyphenation. The thing is that the same problem I have with pagination - with breaking paragraphs between pages.

I did and got no effect. The thing is that the same story is about pagination, not just hyphenation. |

What about using the "Optional Hyphen" at the position you want to divide a word?

??? This is definitely not what I'm looking for. I want this to be done automatically, not manually. |

Guys, I'm facing even more weird thing. I see some spaces after paragraphs appeared in random places. They are not presented in style or whereever, but can be seen on pages. As soon as I add single space-character, they disappear - please, compare pic 1 (unexpected space after paragraph) and 2 (I just printed single space-shar). It seems to me that all of problems I'm talking about have the same nature...

It does automatically. Hyphenation oftenly failes and that's the solution.

Dear experts, please, pay attention to my previous post with screenshots. It is really weird behavior (I can't reasonably explain this) and I suppose that it is related to the key problem, which results in hyphenation/pagination refreshing difficulties also. I would be thankful for any advice (except Word reinstallation )))) |

Update: the document I'm talking about is really huge. And when I'm doing nothing, just keeping it opened, the number of pages is changing +-1. So, I opened it when in was 1042 pages long. Doing nothing, but it turns to 1043, then 1044. I saved it, closed Word, reopened and got 1042 again. When I print it to PDF, I got 1042 pages.

The pagination reported in large documents can lag.
For some suggestions, take a look at my response to this question: What's the file size limit for Word? - see my answer |

Ok, but the same story with hyphenation and strange sudden intervals I showed above (do you agree that this all looks similar?). And after all... Anyway I have to deal with the text of this size... What can I do, actually...
And the file I'm working is much smaller than you are writing in that post. |

The suggestions in that post work with all documents. They become more powerful the larger or more complex the document gets. I was responding to your note about the varying of the pagination.
Word never really figures out pagination until it is printing (or converting to pdf). What you show seems to be a combination of M-dashes and non-breaking spaces (the little degree symbol). These are not hyphens. |
