Pagnation with Columns
Hello - I have a hundred page technical document with many columns. I don't recall running into this in the past when doing such things. But my pagination is ruined because of all the section breaks that don't include page breaks. My "visible" section numbers skip many numbers - the rest of the numbers being the phantom sections that aren't broken by page. The hidden footers/heaters from the phantom sections are set to Start at 0 rather than continue from previous section causing the following section to restart the sequence.
I've called MS support. It's been weeks and they're dumbfounded. Is there anything I can do? If the only option is to temporarily add page breaks to all the section breaks, then modify the header sequence, then delete that page break, I'm probably just going to manually type page numbers. It is possible that one of the sections is corrupt.
If that is not the case then you should be able to set the starting number by simply looping through the sections. For example: Code:
Sub SetStartingPageNumber() Dim secIndex As Long For secIndex = 2 To ActiveDocument.Sections.count ActiveDocument.Sections(secIndex).Headers(wdHeaderFooterPrimary).PageNumbers.RestartNumberingAtSection = False Next secIndex End Sub |

Will that work is the sections are many per page? Due to the columns each visible page may span 2-4 sections. So counting the sections in sequence will result in much higher page numbers that actual pages. Also maybe the sections are corrupt? Is there a way to verify that? |

Yes.

No. It usually manifests as odd behaviour. I have typically found that documents with a lot of continuous section breaks are more likely to become corrupt. |

That was fantastic. Worked like a charm. THANK YOU! (The report is about trees and urban forests so they thank you as well.)
