I have a document that is using cross referencing for some tables and images with captions. Some of the captions have slashes in them that seem to be causing issues when I place the cross reference in the text. I do not have the ability to share the document but I'll give some examples.
Caption1: text here Figure 1: Then more text. Caption2: text//text//text Figure 1: Then more text. In the text I would like to just see "Figure 1". I insert the cross reference as a "figure" with "Only label and number" selected and link it to Caption1 listed above and the cross reference shows as "text here Figure 1". I right click and select "Edit Field" then click "Field Codes". In the "Field Codes:" box, I update the default of "REF _ref1234567" to read "REF _ref1234567 \h \#Figure##" and select "OK". The cross reference in the text now reads "Figure 1" just like I want. On Caption2, I perform the same steps but the cross reference in the text does not change, it still reads as "text//text//text Figure 1" Is there a way for me to tell Word to ignore the slashes and show only "Figure 1" like the captions without slashes in them? |

Select the text in the caption that you want to see in the cross reference. Add a bookmark at that selection (lets assume you call that bookmark negeise).
Now at the place where you want a cross-reference, add a Ref field with the following code {REF negeise \h}
