HELP!!! Windows 11 update removed several 'Format Object' functions from Word
Company just forced Windows 11 update to my PC. Current documents still open with Windows 10 Word 'Format Object' functionality and toolbar. New documents created from my template (built in Windows 10), open (in Compatibility Mode) with no 'Format Object' toolbar - only a pop-up window, and a lot of functions are gone.
Examples of lost functions: You can no longer group shapes or objects together UNLESS they are inside of a drawing canvas. Lines and pointers no longer offer Sketched Style; Compound Type; Cap Type; or Join Type. And I've not even gone that far into this new thing! Someone PLEASE tell me I have missed something, and these controls have just been moved or I can them back on somehow!!!!! |

Good screenshots.
How about attaching a sample document with the problem? Attach a Sample File Demonstrating the Problem - Here's How I am using Word 365/2021 in Windows 11 (which I do not care for) but have no problems with the controls for shapes. I get the Pane that you are expecting. Also, look for a contextual tab to format the shape. I note that your right-click menu is calling this an AutoShape, not a Shape. Do you get the same problem if you insert a new shape and right-click on it? |

Thank you SO MUCH for helping me out with this! Here is the sample you requested...
I also added a few sample images and shapes to show the issue. Last edited by SnakeDoctor; 10-31-2023 at 11:06 AM. Reason: Additional Info |

Did you try turning off Compatibility Mode?

Um... Yea, that was it...
Italophile - OMG. Now I really feel like an idiot. I have never actually opened or saved a document in Compatibility Mode before, as I have never had a reason to. So, I didn't even look close enough to see that is what this was.
As I have gotten older the 'fat-finger' syndrome has become far too prevalent, and I must have added an asterisk before the file type accidentally. Italophile and Charles Kenyon, thank you so much for the assist. I'm going to go hide under my desk for a while now... How embarrassing! LOL |
