Unwanted frames when producing pdf
I'm having the same issue with frames: modify the Style, hit Format/Frames and "Remove Frame". Save. Update style to match selected. I can now "save as" and produce a PDF that doesn't have images in the place of the style I've modified; but if I go back to the Word document and revisit the style, the frames are there. I don't want to go through removing frames from every heading style (there are 9) every time I produce a PDF from it. Is there an option to turn these annoying frames off for the entire document or heading styles?

Can you attach a sample document with the problem? Also the resulting pdf?
Attach a Sample File Demonstrating the Problem - Here's How Brief answer is that there is no automatic method of removing Frames. However, once you have removed them from the style, they should stay off. I or someone else could certainly write a macro that removes frames from heading styles, but it would be nice to have a sample document with the problem to make sure the macro matches the problem. Here is a macro that deletes frames from built-in heading styles. It may mark those styles as in use, though. Code:
Sub FramesRemoveFromHeadingStyles() ' Charles Kenyon 2023-06-12 ' Remove frames from built-in heading styles - may mark styles as "in-use in document, though" ' https://www.msofficeforums.com/175552-post2.html ' Dim iCount As Long For iCount = 1 To 9 With ActiveDocument.Styles(iCount) .Frame.Delete End With Next iCount End Sub |

headings with frames
Unfortunately I can't. It's a work file and I can't share any part of it. I'd have to create another sample on my personal laptop.
I can say that I noticed it first looking at the PDF. The headings are numbered with a title. The numbered part looked fuzzy. When I clicked on the text part, the cursor acted like I was determining an insertion point. When I clicked on the numerical part, an image box selected. It took me awhile researching. Others had the same thing happen but didn't know what caused it. I stumbled on the frame thing. I noticed that I could modify the heading, remove the frame, update the heading to match the selection - went through this for 6 heading styles. I "saved as" a pdf and it worked - the image boxes were gone. Even though I saved the Word file after the PDF file, when I went back into the Word file and looked at the headings, the frames were back. It was just like another user on this site said - they come back - and there doesn't seem to be an option to completely turn them off. Thanks for the macros though. They may come in handy. If you do think of a way to turn these frames off, I'm interested. Thank you. |

If the frames are coming back when you reopen the document then I would suspect you have set your attached template to 'refresh' the styles on open.
Have a look at your Templates and Add-ins dialog and confirm that you haven't set 'Automatically update document styles' to be turned on. You can either turn this off or modify the styles in the attached template to make sure they don't have frames on that style.

We are not interested in the confidential information. Yes, you would be recreating the problem. You can do that on your personal laptop or on your work computer. Read the link I provided on how to do this. |
