Question Trying to open Word from shared drive

I'm new at this forum and just hope it's ok (did not know I had to use algebra to register! and thought they wanted random question and answers....)
Anyway to this topic.
I tried to share my ext drive on the share network...W10 both PC and not able to open words showing from the shared pc.
Reading here I then used a doc. from my internal drive with not better result....
Then I used my Belkin link between the 2 pc and still get the same bad result.
Words open on PC 2 but remains blank. Obviously this is very frustrating as it took me ages to network share then with my link playing with different to create a new words file but no go??
I hope I'm not interferring with this thread as I thought it a similar situation...
