I am editing a 1550 work and am strictly following the original page numbering, with a bracketed boldface page number indicating a new section on the same Word page, with footnote numbering restarting for each new section. Like this:
...he turned his host another way [1024] and went into Provence and laid siege to Marseille Original page no. [1024] is essentially a section head. At the first square bracket I would command Page break/Continuous, and also at References, Restart footnote numbering with each new section for the whole document. PROBLEM is that Word is automatically starting every new section on a new page--that is, it's not Continuous. As well, for References even though I command Apply changes to whole document, Word just doesn't pay any attention. In editing earlier chapters, in separate docs, Continuous worked OK, but I just cannot see where to tell Word that Continuous means that, not Next [new] page. |
