Clarifying after looking at your sample document...

The problem you are having is that the column on the right is before the one on the left, for text as well as for the line numbering. That is, the text starts in the right-most column and flows to the left-most column.

The numbering follows the text direction. You want both to be left-to-right with the numbers on the right.


I do not have any solution to offer. If I had to do this, I might try defining my page as half the width and printing pages two-up. Otherwise, I might use four-column table with the page numbers in two of the columns. I will try the first one on your sample.
