Default How do I remove the gap in my header?

Hey guys,

Quick question:

How do I remove the gap in a header as illustrated in the picture below. I've tried searching through everything I can think of. The blue arrow in the pic is there because I've turned the non-printing characters on.

Thanks in advance.

What you are seeing is a tab. It is part of the Style of your header; therefore, you must modify the style, or create a new one, to eliminate the tab. I don't know the Mac, but I believe you find Styles listed under Format in the menu bar in your version of Word. That should open up a pane at the right side of your screen with a list of styles. Right click the relevant heading style, select modify, and then click on Format at the bottom of the dialogue box that comes up.

Hey, thank you for the reply but it wasn't actually within the styles in the end (I'd spent AGES looking around there prior to posting here).

I actually got to the bottom of this last night an it turns out the solution was in the bullets and numbering options.

In case anyone needs a solution in the future:

Go to Format ->
bullets and numbering ->
Ensure the relevant style is selected ->
customize ->
Ensure only heading 1 is selected (at least this was the case for me, if you wanted to remove the space in other headings select those) ->
find the "Follow Number With" option and choose "Nothing".

That'll sort it out!
