I can open jpg files fine browsing via explorer. This behaviour does not happen in Excel when setting a hyperlink so its something Word related.

I have...
  • Reset default links and ensured .jpg is set to photos app
  • Used Microsoft Office removal tool to remove office and reinstalled manually
  • Deleted the normal template for Word
  • Removed all add-ins and tried Word in Safe mode

Any more pointers would be appreciated.
I have the same problem. Other hyperlinks to open folders, videos, other documents all work fine. I just can't open a hyperlink to a .jpg even though I can view the .jpg in any other app. Hard to remember exactly, but I believe this used to work. Word has not been updated, though I believe Win10 might have been.

Don't see any solutions here.
