Default Placing ClipArt in a Table of Contents (TOC) via Styles

I am attempting to place clipart into a TOC using header styles within the text of a document.

I’m running Word 2007 on a Windows 10 machine.

I have tried two different techniques, one of which works but is complicated because it takes several keystrokes but only one style

The other method (one style for each linked clipart) creates a proper format in the text but the clipart isn’t transferred (linked) in the TOC.

First method (the one that doesn’t work) is as follows:
My daughter created several styles each of which has a different clipart embedded (linked?) within it.
I’m not sure how she did this.
When typing a line using a particularf style the clipart properly appears in the line to the left of whatever the text is.

However, when creating a TOC, the text shows up but the clipart does not.

Second method (which works) is as follows
Using any header style (only one used which was derived from Heading 1)
However I must then do the following steps:
1) Type the text
2) Copy the clipart to between the leftmost character in the text and the second one.
3) Move or type the leftmost (1st character) to the right (following) the clipart
4) Delete the character leftmost character if copied
5) Hit the tab key at the left of the clipart
As an aside (but I can live with it) the tab key throws the text off center in justified text

When a TOC is created the clipart and text shows up properly in the table.

My question is can Word actually make a linked clipart (one per style) appear in a TOC?
Or am I doing something incorrectly or incompletely?

Any suggestions in modifying method one or streamlining method two would be most welcome.

Thank you
KRoger

You would want your clipart in either a style used by the TOC or a TC field. (Probably not the TC field.)

I'm sorry but I do not understand your response.
Could you please expand on what you want me to try?

Thank you,

KRogeer

Most likely, the first method you described is using the clipart as a custom bullet imported from a picture. This is associated with the style and could also be associated with the TOC style where you want to see these graphics in the TOC.
