I have inherited a word document and in it appears to be a SHAPE which has text inside it.
The text is in two parts The first part is in a box which has a tag on it which says Title and has 3 vertical dots to the left of the word Title. Below it is a second similar box which has a tag on it called Subtitle, again with 3 vertical dots next to the word Subtitle. I am trying to copy these into another document because I want to create a template but it won't let me. When I paste the object into another word doc, it is just blank. Nothing appears. I have never seen this set up before. Does anyone recognise my description and know what type of objects I am dealing with and know how to copy them onto another word document with the same formatting ? |

I can think of at least three ways to set something up like this.
What happens if you save your document as a template? It sounds like a cover page template. Consider attaching the document here so we can look at it. How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum. |

Here is what I am seeing:
You have a shape or textbox at the top. Under it is another textbox. That contains both the Document Property Content Control "Title" and some text. You should have no trouble copying individual elements if you want. Again, the simple thing to do would be to save it as a Template and use that to create new documents. If you want things typed on the Cover page to repeat, you should be using Mapped Content Controls like those used in many of the templates distributed by Microsoft. Repeating Data Using Document Property Content Controls and Other Mapped Content Controls. For instance, you could insert the Title document property content control in your header or footer to have the content show up on all pages using that header/footer. |

Upon further examination, I see that the additional text is also a mapped Content Control with a label "Subtitle." That label is not one used by the standard Document Property Content Controls. Indeed, the Subject Document Property Content Control (DPCC) was renamed "Subtitle" and repurposed as described in my article.
Here is what I see if I insert the Subject DPCC in another location in the document. The text that was inserted in the Subtitle content control is automatically repeated. Normally, to reuse a repurposed DPCC one copies the modified control elsewhere in the document to maintain the changed title.

Thank you for the explanations.....there is no way on this planet that I would ever have figured that out.
