MSWord opens links to pdf with another program and knocks it out of focus

I have changed computers and when I open a link in Word, it opens it with a program that is not the default and also leaves it hidden with other documents that I have open on the desktop.

What could it be due to, should I configure it?

A hyperlink for pdf that in addition to open with another program is hidden and it is logical that this visible.

Typically, any hyperlink that points to a PDF will open in the PDF viewer that you have installed with the operating system.

If there is no dedicated PDF viewer (such as Adobe Reader), the system usually makes use of a web browser, nowadays.

Exactly. But I have a program set up to open pdfs and it opened with another program for the same thing.

This has never happened to me before and it puzzled me. I don't know if the failure comes from Word or from the OS.

That was the reason for the query but now I repeat the test on another Word file and it worked fine. However I would like to know what this behavior could be due to and is it something rare or has it happened to more users.

I'm not sure if you should blame the operating system or individual applications.

To me, it seems as if we (as users) are given less control over which is the default program for a certain action. :-(
