You can press Ctrl+Z to undo the curly apostrophe and change it to a straight one.

Word is set to angle any that is at the start of a word to the right, and at the end of a word to the left. You can copy and paste a left-angled one if you wish.

I suppose using Ctrl-Z to straighten the wrongly-angled quote mark could be a solution but one, it also wastes typing time and two, the angled mark looks much better on the page (rather than the straight one you get).

There must be a way to get it without jumping through backspace/delete/copy/paste hoops.
