I've got a template with a This page intentionally left blank field code to add an even-numbered page to odd-numbered documents. The field has a PAGE code; per Microsoft's documentation, these only update when you print or preview the document. There's nothing on the page about MOD, which the field also has.

While testing, the field code does not update unless I go to print preview TWICE. Word is set to update fields before printing.



For example, if the "This page..." field is correctly displayed and then the page total becomes even-numbered, the message remains displayed, incorrectly; conversely, if the total becomes odd-numbered and the message had previously not been displayed, the message remains NOT displayed, incorrectly. Until I print preview twice.

Is this a known issue, and is there a solution?

A constraint is, the template cannot have any VBA in it.
