"Intense" Style in TOC - how to exclude
Long suffering newbie here, in dire need of help!
As it says above, I have used "Intense" and "Strong" format styles in a doc but for graphic purposes only, as I like the spacing and easy add for sub-titles - I positively do not want them to show up in a TOC, and I cannot find a way to keep them out. I selected 2 levels only in a custom TOC but they still come up... Ideas? Thanks! |

Long suffering oldie here.
Need more information or a sample document. How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum. See: TOC Tips and Tricks by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP Intense and Strong are character styles and count as direct formatting. If you, instead, add the equivalent formatting to the Styles of the heading/paragraph, it will not be reflected in the TOC. |

I'm not sure of a permanent fix but after updating the TOC you could select it and press Ctrl-Space to remove the local character formatting. Once the character styles were gone from the TOC you could then just choose the update page numbers only option or remember to use Ctrl-Space next time after updating.
