Issue pasting an HTML webpage into a Word text box
Hello. I am hoping someone can assist me. I have been using Word 2007 for 10+ years until a few days ago when I switched to Office 365. I have a Word template that is used for my job and I have always been able to copy and paste a webpage into my report without any formatting issues.
Now in 365, it will not paste properly. It basically doesn't fit because all of the data is too large after the paste. I have tried all of the different pasting types (Keep source formatting, Merge formatting, etc.) with no luck. I have attached a sample of the page from Word 2007, and then the current version of the page using Office 365. I have also attached a sample of the webpage that I am trying to copy. As you can see, the data fits perfectly in 2007, but not 365. I have been racking my brain for several days trying to find a solution. Maybe it cannot be done, but I would think something this simple done in a previous version would work in the newer version. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

The data in the two documents differ. For example:
• Test 365 uses 23.44cm preferred width for the table but Test 2007 uses 15cm; • Test 365 contains a 'Black Knight' logo but Test 2007 does not; • Test 365 uses a 10.5pt font for 'Subject Property Location' but Test 2007 uses 6.5pt; • Test 365 uses a 9pt font for 'Property Address' but Test 2007 uses 6pt. Both use brute-force formatting to override Word's 'Normal' Style. An examination of your html file's content shows these parameters are in your data.

I'm thinking the issue is not with Word but the browser you are copying the source from. I get very different results if the HTML file is opened and copied from IE, Chrome or Microsoft Edge. I have to say that Edge appears to give me the right result.
I note that this is a completely unscientific test but I would advise you to try a different browser before we get deeper into this problem. Can you at least verify that the same browser is being used to display the html file when you copy the content?

Thanks to both of you for the responses. Much appreciated.
Paul, Test-2007 & Test-365 are the same template. It was created in Word 2007 and is now being used in 365. When I select that entire HTML and paste it into 2007, then do the same in 365, the results are in those attachments I included. And as you can see, they are not the same for whatever reason. The fonts you noted change automatically after the paste is completed. 2007 seems to automatically "fit" the page into my text box. 365 does not. Andrew, regarding the browser, I have always used Chrome for this process and did so in both of these test cases. However, in an attempt to diagnose the issue, I also tried using IE and Edge and the same problem occurred. Hopefully I am making sense. It's tough to explain. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks again. |
