I have a document that has several documents in it.
Some of the documents are numbered with letters, ex: AB 1-5 The next document might be something like EF 1-10 I usually type the letters in and insert the page numbers in the footer When I create the Table of Contents, it will not pick up on the letters. Does anyone know of a way to have the TOC pick up the full footer? |

There are two ways to do this:
The Easy Way = The 'letters' must be available as autonumbers associated with a heading level. Then you modify the Page Number settings by going to Insert > Page Numbers > Format Page Numbers... and set it to include that heading level. The Hard Way requires a macro which retrofits each paragraph in the TOC after that field is updated. This is not a great way to do it so you should try the Easy way first.

To add to what Charles has said, note that it is also possible to include numbering from SEQ fields with page numbers. For more, see TOC Tips and Tricks.
