Unhappy Where did my document go? I just saved it.

I was working this mornng on a student's paper. I downloaded it from email. I tried to save it but was told it is read-only. I saved it under a similar name. I worked on this item for at least an hour, made comments and changes. Now that I want to return it to the student, I can't find it. MS Word does not show it or its original version in the "Recent" list. I've nver seen that happen. I searched my computer with

name:start of file name

and found nothing. What in the world did MS Word do that the file was saved but can't be found???
