Default Do you have Private Use Area in your Word - use of private characters

Gabriola and Segoe UI have them starting at E000 unicode in Symbols (most fonts don't have Private Use Area at all). I believe this is where Private characters are supposed to be stored. I cannot enter private characters into Word.
