Default Icons too large when inserting an object

When I insert a PowerPoint file into a Word 2016 document using "Insert > Object > Object > Create from File," sometimes the icon and the filename below it look fine. Other times, they are too large, and the filename looks pixelated and is cut off. This seems to happen randomly; I can't see any pattern in when it happens and when it doesn't. I've searched various forums and the only solution I've seen is to reimage the computer (which I can't do; it's a secure work computer). Any suggestions?
p.s. -- When I do the above steps, I always browse to the file and then check the box "Display as icon" afterward.
