Changing the setting from 4 to 1 just changes the number to 1.1. I want to set it so that each chapter number comes first. So that it would be 2.1 for chapter 2 section 1. I don't want to go to each chapter and set the multilevel numbering. Is there a way to set it so that at each chapter the first number updates?

I figured out that I needed to disconnect it from a template (it was not using "normal") and define the multilevel settings again and then remove formatting from some areas and reapply with the new formatting.
