If you mean that obviously misspelled words are not being flagged...
Select one of those words and check the language setting for that word under the Review tab. If it says "do not check spelling or grammar" uncheck that. Then select all (Ctrl-A) and clear that box for everything. If problem recurs, see Spelling Checker Does Not Work! - Proofing Language Keeps Changing - Solutions
