Here is a macro:

Application.Options.SnaptoGrid = False
End Sub
Run the macro and then close and reopen Word. Does the setting stick? If not, rename the macro AutoExec and put it in your normal.dot template. Instructions for Installing Macros from Forums or Websites by Graham Mayor, MVP
