Just so we're all on the same page...

When you use the Save icon, you generally don't see anything happen on the screen--Word just saves the file--with the current name--in the background. The only exception to that is when a new file is saved--the Save As box opens so you can name the file.

Save As opens a dialog box that gives you the opportunity to rename, or change file type, or location, etc. When the dialog box opens, the Save button should already be active--you're saying that the Save button is inactive? Could you provide a screenshot?




Have you tried renaming the file in Windows Explorer?
