Hi all
We print out our Word documents on paper with a rectangular ink stamp in the bottom right hand corner of each page (and a signature). We have a standard footer in Word that currently spans the entire width of the Word documents we print out. The stamp actually goes above this (it could be compacted and shifted to the left if needed). How do we "block out" this area, or put a guide or grid there (or any other option) so we know not to put text there that will cover the stamp when printed. Thank you for solutions! |

Place a borderless textbox at that location in your footer. Set it for tight wrapping. This can be there even if it is outside the actual area set for the footer.
See Letterhead Textboxes and Styles Tutorial. |

Thanks Charles, yes that looks like a good solution, the tutorial uses .dot and .dotx format. We have prewritten word docs that we update before printing, they are all different according to the topic but all have the same footer.
I think we are going to have to put the text box into the footer, as adding a text box outside it on every page would drive everyone nuts. So IŽll put the current footer into a text box and move it to the left to create a space for the signature and stamp (with a new text box on the right that will "spill out" slightly above the footer.) IŽll then distribute the word doc. Can they just copy the two text boxes in the footer and paste them to their word docs without having to worry that it will move when printed (we always save in PDF before printing)? Thanks |

It depends on how they copy them. They have to position them.
You could also create a footer Building Block that contains it. You should not need a text box on the left. If you have the wrapping set on the text box on the left set to "tight," the rest of the footer should remain on the right. |
