A text only file with 200,000 words is not excessively large so running 5 docs like that shouldn't tax the machine too heavily.

If your documents a full of local formatting or Tracked Revisions this might be adding memory overhead that is slowing you down.

The intent for Draft View is that it is quicker than Print View so it is interesting that you found the opposite.
