Unhappy "Can't open file. Sorry, something went wrong and filename.docx can’t open." (iOS app)

I have a Word document stored in OneDrive that opens correctly on my PC (Windows 10), but refuses to open in the Word app on iOS (iPhone 6). What's strange is that if I copy and paste the file inside OneDrive (thus renaming the file to something new), the copy will open correctly in the iOS app without issue. BUT... once I exit the Word iOS app, launch it again, and try to open the copy again, the error message returns. (So, in order to work on this document on my phone, I have to rename the file to a new name every single time I want to open it. Naturally, this is driving me insane, since I have to work on my phone a lot.)

Other stuff I learned upon further investigating:

-I have now tested this on an Android tablet using the exact same steps and using the same Word document. I am unable to replicate this issue. So either (1) the issue is specific to the iOS app, or (2) the issue is somehow specific to just my iphone. Still mystified.

-I tried copy/pasting the document's contents into a new word file, pasting just the plain text without any formatting. Even in this new file, the issue persists on iOS.

Thanks for any and all help!
