I gave you a link to a sample file.

1. For the content control, I used Greg Maxey's Add-In (linked) and inserted a Rich Text control.
2. I added the numbered list in the content control.
3. I copied the content control to a new spot.
4. Changes made in one copy are automatically reflected in the other.
5. I followed the instructions in Shauna Kelly's page to do the numbering.
6. The numbering shown is at the third level, but could have been the second.
7. To restart the numbering, I inserted a paragraph of level 1 between the two. Although that is numbered, it need not be.

It is the nature of Word's automatic numbering to continue. When you copy from one spot to another within a document, absent an intervening factor, the numbering in the copy will continue in the same list. This is true no matter how the copy is made.


The use of mapped content controls eliminates the need to update a Ref field.



If you want only a static copy, then use a screenshot and paste that screenshot.

Sorry it's been a busy few weeks, thank you for the response.

I have been trying to get the copied content control to work, and having a difficult time. Do I need to install Greg Maxey's Addin-In? Is it possible to accomplish the same goal without the add-in?
