Hi, Recd below error msg when I tried use Menus below which are linked to subjects below in a 2003 Word.doc. Created a bookmark & link in a NEW BLANK Word.doc, Recd the same error msg.

"This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your systems administrator."

Anyone know what "restrictions" would cause this & how I could get the menus working again as I've been using these Word.docs for at least 10* yrs?

First step would be to contact your system administrator to see if there have been any recent changes in system policies.

The links go to a bookmark in a different document? If so, where is that document located? Within your network or without? What does the actual hyperlink URL look like?

Thanks, Short answer: Don't have a sys adm, I'm retired.

I did screen captures of the links/bookmarks on the 2 PCs I have, Dsktp & Laptop [has the problem]. Short story: links & bookmarks are the same on both PCs.Below are the screenshots.

Docs from laptop open fine on dsktop & my atty's PC. She is going to save the Word.doc as a Word.docx & email it to me, then I'll try that.

Feels like it's something in the "guts" of Word or the operating sys. Not the functions a user has access to.


FYI: Your forums is the best forum I've been on in a long time. Very Professional.

Hi,

I was able to come up with a creative fix to "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your systems administrator." with the help of Mister Mxyzptlk Superman's antagonist, below.

Just kidding, as I mentioned before, my atty sent me a copy of the affected file in .docx format.Opened on my Laptop, it worked, opened the .doc on my laptop, it worked.

Problem Solved. At least for now.
