Yes there is a startup folder but templates work differently with Excel and Word.
Do you want new instances of Word to open multiple new unsaved documents based on templates? Do you want this to happen when you double-click on a Word document? Do you want it to happen if Word is already open and you use File>Open? Maybe explain exactly what it is that you want to happen.
