Confusing Message!?!
When I open a Word doc and click on the DESIGN tab on the menu I get a message "The last time you opened 'BWNumbered.dotx', it caused a serious error. Do you still want to open it?" I searched for the file 'BWNumbered.dotx', but didn't find it. My anti -virus scan says "No Virus Found". I am confused as to what it really is? |

Does this happen with a particular Word document only, or can you reproduce it with any document?

That template could be called because it is attached to the current document or loaded as an addin.
However if the error doesn't appear until you activate the Design Tab then it could be sitting in your folder for Quick Styles C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\QuickS tyles

That is a custom Quick Style Set.

It happens with every Word doc. Even with a new Word doc.

In File Explorer, if you display hidden files as well as system files, can you locate the BWNumbered.dotx file?

You will find it in the folder for Quick Style Sets. The location for that folder is shown in the material I linked. Such a [quick] style set is triggered, accessed, whenever you go to the Design tab. This is a hidden system folder.
On my system, it can be found at C:\Users\Charles K. Kenyon\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\QuickStyles. Again, its location may be different depending on your Windows version. |

No, it isn't normal to get a pop-up message like that. Try moving the file out of the QuickStyles folder. For example, you can cut it and paste it on your desktop.
