Word does not check spelling

I have set English and Portuguese as languages, tried to follow all instructions, but cannot make MsWord check my spelling. Office is 2007. Thank you very much.

What does it say the language is at the bottom of your document? Can you attach a sample word doc?

Portuguese (Brazil). Attached. This document was obtained through OCR and lost portuguese accents (like à)

Maybe that's your answer? Losing the accents through OCR?

I can't get the Portuguese dictionary to download.

Do you have a PDF of the original?

The PDF is missing accents as well. I don't think I can do much for you. However attached is a copy of the PDF you attached in a word document including Portuguese and English

Thanks, but this is not about this document only. It is about the ability to check spelling generally. This is just an example.
