Hi everyone. I'm new here.

I'm trying to revise a roughly 450-page Word document where each chapter lives in a separate section because most page numbers need to be Roman when others need to be Arabic instead. The first page of each chapter stays unnumbered and so does any page showing only captioned pictures. Each time I renumber the Arabic-numbered pages and save the document, the computer undoes some page number changes. So what am I doing wrong? What should I do to make machine keep the correct page numbering?
