I haven't used Word on a Chromebook so I'm not sure what functionality works or doesn't there. It is entirely possible that the application is limited because of the operating system differences.

However, it might be as simple as getting the template on the Chromebook. I would assume that the dropdown field is actually a Content Control and possibly a Building Block Content Control. If it is, then the template where the building blocks reside would also need to travel with the document.
