Hi, I'm new n this forum and I wonder if the following question has been asked before (I haven't found a search function.)
1) I'd like to be able to have the "Page X of Y" subset to come on top of my dropdown menu when I click "Insert page number / page bottom". As y'all know, by default, it's always at the end of the dropdown menu. I've been playing around with the QuickParts BuildingBlocks Organizer, renaming those sections "01 Page X of Y" or "AAA Page X of Y". Unfortunately, although they were renamed correctly, still this didn't work out though and that subset still comes up at the bottom of my list. In other words, nothing changed. ![]() 2) Similarly, for my Headings dropdown menu, I'd like my personal categories to come on top of my list. Despite my naming those categories "01 - Myself" or "AAA - Myself", they still come somewhere further down the dropdown menu. And yet again, playing around with the QuickParts BuildingBlocks Organizer proved unsuccessful. Again, in other words, nothing changed. ![]() I guess thousands of users before me have wanted to organize their QuickParts BuildingBlocks by either renaming categories or creating new ones in such a way that the renamed or new categories showed on top of their dropdown menus. Sure there must be a workaround! Could somebody please either give me the solution or point me to the appropriate resolved & closed threads? ![]() |

These are in alphabetical order, first by category and then by name.
You can store entries you want as custom entries in the Building Blocks.dotm file. You could create a new category: _mine or store them in the Built-In category using underscores at the start of the name. Where can Building Blocks be stored? |

Thank you very much, Charles Kenyon, for your quick, short, and efficient answer!
![]() I'll make do with the underscores if it's what it takes. I'll keep it in mind for future renamings in everything Ms-Office. Thank you very much for the tip! Where and how did you learn all those tricks?? They should be included both in the Help contents and the different manuals! |

Your issues could be resolved easily enough by removing the entries that you never want to use.
It can be useful to remove all the existing entries from the Built-In Building Blocks.dotx template if you are actually putting in your own entries. For me, the huge number of entries there are good for sparking ideas but in a corporate environment they just get in the road of productivity. Deleting all these entries is not irreversible because you can remove the template from %appdata%\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\1033\16 (or whatever location relates to your language and version) and it will be recreated by opening Word.

Good thoughts Andrew.
Another method is to create a category or categories that come before "Built-In" in alphabetical order. The underscore can be used in naming them if you want. Most of what I know about Word I learned in forums (formerly newsgroups dating back to CompuServe) like this one. I am trying to pay forward some off that knowledge. I suspect that this particular tip was passed on to me by Suzanne Barnhill. |
